Telephone Surgery
If you have questions about your pregnancy you can call any weekday during the telephone surgery hours, between 9.00am and 9.30am, tel. +31 (0)20 6831640. If you have an urgent question during the weekend you can always call the midwife on duty on the emergency number. If it’s not really an emergency, we prefer you to wait until the afternoon to call, so midwives can sleep undisturbed in the mornings after attending births at night.
The waiting room
The surgery is by appointment. Sometimes it’s unavoidable that you have to wait because the person before you needs more than the scheduled time. There is reading material and many books of birth cards from over the years. On the mirror on the toilet door the assistant writes up the names of all the mothers who have just given birth with the name and sex of their babies. Everyone looks forward to the day their name will finally appear on the mirror. Many women know one another from their maternity classes. When women come for their weekly check-up, the first thing they usually do when they arrive in the waiting room is to look at the mirror. Who’s given birth this week?
